Consumer debt makes life harder.
Garnishment makes it harder to pay the rent or buy food. Collection lawsuits mean you need time off from work. Repossession means you can’t get to work. Debt collection harassment can make it harder to sleep at night.
Many people don’t even know about all of their options. They need someone to answer the basic questions. Is bankruptcy the right choice? Do I have defenses in a collection lawsuit? Can I get my garnished money back? Do I need to file a lawsuit to stop debt collection harassment?
I can help.
I can answer these questions and provide the help you need. If you just need advice, that’s what I do. If you only need to send a letter or file a court form, this is what I do. If it turns out that you need go to court or file for bankruptcy, I do this too.
For many years, I worked at Legal Aid helping people with these types of problems. I recognized a gap: there are many people who need help with consumer debt but who don’t qualify for Legal Aid and can’t afford an attorney.
To help fill that gap, I have reduced fees for people with lower incomes.

Who is Jeremy Carvell?
I’ve been licensed to practice in Minnesota since 2006. For most of that time, I was a staff attorney Legal Aid, where I focused on helping individuals facing debt-related legal issues.
I founded Carvell Legal Services to provide practical and affordable legal representation for people navigating collection lawsuits, garnishments, debt issues, and bankruptcy-related concerns.
